Community Solar is a type of partnership that allows you to subscribe to solar projects in your electric utility and receive savings on your electric bill with $0 upfront costs. For more information, visit our “What is Community Solar” page.
-
You start by subscribing to the right number of panels based on your electricity use. As the panels generate power, you receive bill credits that lower your electric bill. Finally, you pay the solar farm owner for the bill credits, typically at a 10-15% discount.
-
At Turquoise Trail Energy Solutions, our expert electricity advisors will help you explore options to reduce your electricity costs. If community solar is the right fit for you, we’ll connect you with a leading provider in your area and you’ll start saving 10-15% each year.
-
The total amount saved will depend on the state/utility you are in and the amount of community solar you subscribe to. Typical savings rates are around 10 to 15% of your annual electric bill.
-
Subscribers are not responsible for any upfront costs associated with construction or operation of a community solar site. The only costs will be paying back a portion of the bill credits delivered to your bill each month.
-
You’ll see bill credits on your monthly bill that lower the amount you owe to your electric utility. After that, the solar farm will send you a separate monthly invoice for the credits you received, factoring in your 10-15% discount.
-
Determining how much solar to sign up for depends on a combination of:
1) How much your facility spends on electricity
2) What state specific regulations are in place
3) How much energy is generated by a panel in that location
Turquoise Trail Energy Solutions can guide you through this with ease to ensure your business signs up for the optimal amount to maximize savings and minimize risk.
-
Typically subscribers are not allowed to claim they use renewable energy by partnering with a solar farm as the Renewable Energy Credit (or REC) will go from the project to the utility.
However, if RECs are a key factor for your business, reach out to Turquoise Trail Energy Solutions to see what other solutions may be possible.
-
The availability and eligibility for a subscriber to participate in a community solar partnership depends on your utility and rate tariff. The utility drop down on our home page allows you to check what might be available in your area. For more information, please reach out to us and one of our expert advisors will provide more information and confirm your eligibility.
-
Turquoise Trail Energy Solutions is paid by the solar farm owners, not by businesses who sign up. Our services are free to businesses who want to explore community solar.
